On August 16, 2004, George Fiorini, a stock promoter from Cincinnati, Ohio, pleaded guilty to mail fraud, filing a false tax return and interstate transportation of stolen property. Fiorini used religious themes to attract investors to his programs, Guardian Investments and 10 Percent Income Plus Plan. Fiorini sold over $13.5 million in promissory notes before he was ordered by the SEC to cease sales in 2001. Fiorini was later charged in a 79-count indictment with money laundering, mail fraud and income tax evasion. Fiorini claimed that some of the money went into IGW Trust (In God We Trust) and The Standard Trust. Fiorini also claimed that much of the money was taken by his former associate, Terry Quatkemeyer, alias Terry Quinn, who became an exotic car dealer in Los Angeles and was subsequently incarcerated for bank fraud. Fiorini’s business partner, Stephen Ventre, pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and agreed to testify against Fiorini. On September 30, 2003, Fiorini backed out of a plea agreement.
